On July 7, 2011, Kia USA celebrated the production of its 300,000th vehicle at the Kia plant in West Point, Ga, a historical milestone when you consider that the plant just opened its doors in 2009.

The West Point plant, also known as Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG), sprawls over 2,200 acres, and is currently the only manufacturing site in North America for Kia Motors Corporation. The Kia Sorento SUV, the brand’s best-selling model in the U.S., has been mass-produced at the Kia plant in West Point since 2009. Later this year, Kia USA plans to add the Optima midsize sedan to the production line at West Point, as part of a series of expansion projects slated to increase the plant’s annual production to 360,000 vehicles in 2012.

The Georgia-based plant currently employs over 3,000 people. As for Kia cars USA, the company has more than 730 operating dealers nationwide. “We take pride in how far we’ve come, creating a foothold in the American market”, said g roup president and CEO of Kia Cars USA and KMMG, Byuong Mo Ahn.
